Terms and Conditions of Use

System: Computer Vision-Based Facial Recognition Attendance Using Machine Learning
Institution: Universidad de Manila – College of Computing Studies
Effective Date: May 2026

By logging in to this System, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

1. Purpose of the System

This System is a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology capstone project developed for academic research, testing, demonstration, and attendance-management purposes. It uses computer vision and machine learning to support facial-recognition-based attendance verification.

2. Authorized Use

Only authorized students, faculty members, administrators, researchers, and approved participants may access the System.

You agree to use the System only for its intended attendance-related and academic purposes. You must not use the System for unauthorized monitoring, impersonation, harassment, testing against unapproved individuals, or any unlawful activity.

3. Account Responsibility

You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials. Do not share your username, password, verification code, or account access with another person.

You must promptly report suspected unauthorized access, loss of credentials, or misuse of your account to the system administrator or project researchers.

4. Attendance Verification

The System may use facial recognition to verify identity during attendance recording. A successful verification does not replace official review when an attendance record is disputed.

If the system detects a low-confidence match, unclear image, possible mismatch, or technical error, the attendance attempt may require manual verification. Users must not attempt to bypass, manipulate, or deceive the verification process.

5. Accuracy and Limitations

The System is an academic prototype and may have limitations. Face verification may be affected by lighting, camera quality, facial coverings, changes in appearance, network conditions, and model accuracy.

The project researchers and Universidad de Manila do not guarantee that every recognition result or attendance record will be error-free. Report inaccurate records promptly for review and correction.

6. Privacy and Data Use

By using the System, you acknowledge that your personal information, attendance records, and facial images or face-verification results may be collected and processed for the System’s stated academic and attendance-related purposes.

The handling of personal information is described in the System Privacy Policy. Users should review the Privacy Policy before using the System.

7. Prohibited Activities

Users must not:

  • Access another person’s account or attendance record without authorization.
  • Submit another person’s facial image or attempt attendance on their behalf.
  • Alter, delete, interfere with, or attempt to manipulate attendance data.
  • Copy, distribute, or disclose facial images, personal data, or system records without authorization.
  • Attempt to disable, reverse engineer, damage, or bypass the System’s security features.
  • Use the System for purposes outside the approved capstone project scope.
8. Suspension of Access

Access may be suspended or revoked if a user violates these Terms and Conditions, misuses the System, compromises security, or provides false information.

9. Changes to These Terms

The project researchers may update these Terms and Conditions when necessary for project improvement, security, or compliance. Continued use of the System after an update means that you accept the revised terms.
